Hey man i do alot of dirt jumps..its not hard its just a way harder landing..as a matter of fact my friends and i build a tabletop yesterday from dirt it was huge i cleared it but i missed the landin jump cause i went too fast and i hit the ground wit my foot and the bike came on top of me wit all my weight and landed on my thumb and now its broken but my point is theres no difference except the landing just start off small and work your way up.. … what were you using to do dirt jumps before?

    The difference is this:

You were doing dirt jumps with something ells, and now you will be doing them with a BMX. The same rules still apply. NEVER NOSE CASE!!!!! ever.

BMX trails are usually steep. steep take off, steep landing with gaps ranging from 8ft to 30ft. average sized jumps are 4.5ft tall with 11ft gaps. The jumps are better groomed than MTB or just about any other dirt jump. This is because of the intense amount of physical labor necessary to allow for riders to accumulate speed from pumping on the landing. Landings must be packed solid, from feet, than shovel, than riding, and can take months.

BMX trails can be very traditional (strait jumps in a line, usually doubles “a launch gap then a landing”) with fairly uniform jump size. these are ideal for tricks. The best construction of trick friendly jumps is to make a smooth take off, over 4ft tall, make an unusually short gap (8ft-12ft depending on the set up) and a landing that is at least 2 -4ft taller than the launch, that is very mellow.

Some BMX trails look as though they have no set organization, but infact every inch of space has been utilized so efficiently with different size shape angle of jump that the number of lines are limited to the extent of someones imagination.

I feel that is a fair introduction to the BMX side of dirt jumps.

If you would like to know how to make them post another question.

    Hope this helped! bmxisgay
