MADD J DOG asked:

I am only 12 and i really want to learn how to jump my bmx and do good tricks. This probably sounds a bit to kiddy but maybe become a semi-pro or a pro. Because my town doesn’t have anything just a small half-pipe that comes about every year for about 3-4 months. I really want one. :(

What you need to do is organise all the kids and their parents if possible to bombard the town council with e mails and letters requesting that some sort of place for bmx riders be made. You will need to have good reasons such as reducing crime or drug addiction because the kids will be at the bmx park and not bored. In the mean time take over a vacant lot make some ramps and just have fun. The kids where I live have done that , they just made their own bmx park.

You’re probably a bit young for it to mean much, but this country (including your town) is in a recession. That means no money is available for projects that aren’t absolutely necessary. A bmx park is not a necessity.

Even if your town’s council had a vacant lot to provide for neighborhood kids/parents to build a neighborhood bmx park, the issue of liability would keep the council from allowing it. Lawyers, insurance companies, and people that won’t accept responsibility for their own actions have changed the world we live in.

Your best option is to just work with some other kids to build your own unauthorized park on a vacant lot somewhere. Yes it’s a form of illegal trespass, and there is always the chance you’ll get booted from it. If you get hurt, it’s your fault and your folks can pay the medical bills, not the owner of the lot that wasn’t informed of and did not approve of you using the lot.

No, Angela, mitigating drug use is not a demonstratively good reason for a park. Lots of kids get high at the park.

No city in their right mind is going to build you a bmx track. Do what my friends and I did. A bunch of kids in my city wanted to have a trail run down at the park so instead of complaining about not having one we made a nature trail into a bmx track.
