Getting a stolen bike back is not a high percentage activity. If it is a good quality bike the chances are less. The usual things like checking the pawn brokers (in person not by phone) checking drainage ditches and long grass around the bike tracks could turn it up.
If the bike has no stand out features it is virtually impossible. In this day of mass production there could be hundreds of bikes that look exactly the same. Proving ownership is difficult even if you do find the bike. Unless the serial number has been recorded. If the police have it they have a better chance of finding the owner if it turns up.
Check with the home insurance at the address where the bike was stolen it may be covered. Depending on the circumstances in which it was stolen.
Failing that turning your efforts toward a replacement will probably be more worthwhile.
Keep an eye out for the police auctions at Pineapple Street. I have picked up some really good gear in the mixed lots. (Really cheap)
Get your grandson onto this site. and maybe a selection of common bike tools. I’m yet to find a kid that doesn’t like putting bikes together. If he has had one bike stolen it is likely to happen again. But if he learns how to put a bike together cheaply it isn’t going to hurt as much.
Learning how to put a bike together teaches good mechanical skills that will be useful the whole of his life. Living in Zillmere gives him good access to one of the best sources of used bike parts in Brisbane. Glenn B
